A Palace for Jack: a new Melbourne Opera

RMIT University Master of Architecture Graduate Project 2016

Supervisor: Michael Spooner

A Palace for Jack proposed a new cultural complex across the colonial munitions store known as Jack’s Magazine, located along the Maribyrnong River. The project utilised an archaeological method known as ‘reconnaissance’ to explore the site and entangle the architectural icons of the Sydney Opera House and Beijing’s Forbidden City within a field of data. This approach to generating form considered the implications of Chinese contributions to Victorian identity.
